A full-length fictional documentary about the life of Jan Andruszewski, which is a background for the history of Polish-Ukrainian relations.
The fictionalized documentary describes the story of an extraordinary gentleman - a doctor of medicine, and at the same time a playwright and prose writer; of Ruthenian origin, of Polish nationality, who, abandoning the life of a European bon vivant, chose a quiet manor house in Smolin as his haven. Until the end of his days, he devoted himself to medical work for the poor local community and to writing.
Jan's life is the background for the most important message conveyed by this picture, because it is not only a story about a man, but above all about the relationships of people living on the border, the aim of which is to renew the cultural roots of Poles and Ukrainians.
The recordings took several months. We shot in the following locations: Kraków, Rzeszów, Radruż, Nadrzecze, Smolin, Horyniec, Łaszczów, Ruda Różaniecka and Lviv.
We included several animations in the film, which present historical scenes that were impossible to recreate - dropping off letters in tree hollows, treating the sick and a procession in Radruż.
